Nephi’s Bow Repair Shop T-Shirt — When Life Breaks, Get to Work

What do you do when your bow breaks? If you’re Nephi, you don’t spend the day complaining about it—you get to work.

In 1 Nephi 16, Nephi’s steel bow breaks while his family is traveling through the wilderness. Unfortunately, the broken bow isn’t the only problem. His brothers lose their bows, and the family begins to murmur against the Lord because they have no way to obtain food.

Nephi responds differently. He makes a new bow out of wood and then asks his father where he should go to obtain food. His father, Lehi, humbles himself and turns to the Lord. Nephi then follows the direction of the Lord through the Liahona and successfully obtains food for his family.

That’s the inspiration behind our Nephi’s Repair Shop t-shirt—and the joke is intentional: “Bring Your Bow Back to Life!” Because sometimes the thing that breaks isn’t a bow. It’s a plan. A relationship. A job. A dream. A season of life.

The deeper lesson is that faith doesn’t mean pretending nothing is broken. Faith means trusting God enough to move forward when something is.

Nephi didn’t sit around waiting for someone else to solve the problem. He used the skills, resources, and strength he had, while relying on the Lord for direction and help. His example teaches us that adversity doesn’t have to turn into murmuring. Opposition can become an opportunity to exercise faith, work, adapt, pray, and keep moving.

So when life hands you a broken bow, remember Nephi.

Don’t murmur. Make a bow.
