A short history of the area
Los Angeles became part of Mexico in 1821 and joined the United States after the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. The city was incorporated on April 4, 1850. Its growth later accelerated with the Los Angeles Aqueduct, completed in 1913, and the rise of Hollywood.
