A short history of the area
The name Concepción appears in historical references including the Battle of Concepción, Chile, and the Battle of La Concepción between Chile and Peru.
The Church here
- 1851–1852Elder Parley P. Pratt of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles served a mission in Chile.
- 1952Billie F. Fotheringham and his family moved to Chile, secured government permission for missionaries to enter the country, and petitioned the Church to establish a mission.
- 1956Missionaries arrived in Chile, and the Santiago Branch was organized.
- 1956The first baptisms in Chile were held on November 25, with nine people baptized.
- 1959The Andes Mission was created with responsibility for Chile and Peru.
- 1961The Chile Mission was organized.
- 1975The Chile Mission divided to create the Chile Concepcion Mission.
- 2003The Chile Concepcion South Mission was created through the reorganization of the Concepcion, Osorno, and Santiago South missions, with changes effective September 1.
