A short history of the area
Colorado Springs was incorporated on June 19, 1886. The city is near Pikes Peak and is known as Olympic City USA. It also has a long history connected with religious organizations, military installations, and outdoor landmarks such as Garden of the Gods.
The Church here
- 1846A wagon train of 43 Church members camped at Fort Pueblo in Colorado after their journey was postponed.
- 1896A mission was established in Colorado, and Apostle John W. Taylor officially established the Colorado Mission in December.
- 1897The first Colorado congregation was organized in Denver on January 3, and missionary work soon extended to Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and other places.
- 1909Missionaries campaigned against the growing number of saloons in Colorado.
- 1911The Mormon Tabernacle Choir toured Colorado.
- 1986The Denver Colorado Temple was completed, bringing additional attention to the Church in Colorado.
- 2002The Colorado Colorado Springs Mission was created on July 1.
