A short history of the area
In March 1983, President Félix Houphouët-Boigny made Yamoussoukro the political and administrative capital of Côte d'Ivoire. Abidjan remains the country's economic capital and continues to carry out several political functions.
The Church here
- 1980Lucien Affoué joined the Church in France, and Philippe Assard joined the Church in Germany.
- 1987Côte d'Ivoire was dedicated for the preaching of the gospel, and the first baptisms in the country took place.
- 1988Full-time missionaries arrived in Côte d'Ivoire. Branches were established in Abidjan, Bouake, and Yamoussoukro within less than five years.
- Early 1990sMany Ivorian youth were serving missions or preparing to serve, and a branch was established in Yamoussoukro.
- 1993More than 300 people attended the first youth conference in Côte d'Ivoire.
- 1997The first stake in Côte d'Ivoire was organized.
- 2015The Yamoussoukro Côte d'Ivoire Stake was organized on April 12, the first stake outside the Abidjan region.
- 2022The Korhogo Branch was organized in the Cote d'Ivoire Yamoussoukro Mission.
