Spanish is the mission language. Missionaries in Ecuador have also taught some indigenous communities in Kichwa, including through a 1980 translation of Book of Mormon selections.

A short history of the area
The city was refounded at its present location on December 6, 1534, by Sebastián de Belalcázar and 204 settlers. Quito became independent after the Battle of Pichincha in 1822. Its historic center became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.

- 1965The first four missionaries arrived in Ecuador, and nine people were baptized later that year.
- 1970The Ecuador Mission was organized in Quito.
- 1978The first stake in Ecuador was organized.
- 1980The Church published a Kichwa translation of selections from the Book of Mormon.
- 1999The Guayaquil Ecuador Temple was dedicated. At that time, Ecuador had about 150,000 Latter-day Saints.
- 2018Ecuador had more than 300 congregations, with a Church presence in every major city and many rural areas.
- 2022The Quito Ecuador Temple was dedicated.
