A short history of the area
George Washington and the Continental Army spent time near Morristown during the Revolutionary War. The town was incorporated within Morris Township in 1865 and formally set off from the township in 1895.

- 1832Orson Pratt and Lyman E. Johnson preached in New Jersey.
- 1838Missionary Benjamin Winchester arrived in the Pine Barrens region, and local congregations began to form.
- 1840Joseph Smith visited a number of congregations in New Jersey.

- 1960The Morristown New Jersey Stake was created.
