A short history of the area
Historical references connected with the name include Trujillo Province’s place in the Republic of Gran Colombia from 1819 to 1831 and its later existence as a Venezuelan province from 1831 to 1864.

- July 1956An official Latter-day Saint branch was organized in Peru.
- 1959The Andes Mission was organized, with 300 members in five congregations.
- 1961The Andes Mission was divided to create the Chilean Mission.
- 1966The Andes Mission was divided again to create the Andes South Mission, based in La Paz, Bolivia.
- 1970Ecuador was separated into an independent mission, and the Andes Mission was renamed the Peru Mission.
- 1974The Peru Mission was renamed the Peru Lima Mission.
- 1977The Peru Lima Mission was divided into the Peru Lima South and Peru Lima North Missions.
- January 1988Seven stakes were created in one weekend during a visit by Elder M. Russell Ballard.
