A short history of the area
Quezon City became the capital of the Philippines in 1948, and it was formally inaugurated as the national capital on October 12, 1949. Manila regained national capital status in 1976. Today, Quezon City is known as the City of Stars and has 142 barangays in six congressional districts.
The Church here
- 1898Two Church members serving with a United States artillery battery were set apart as missionaries and began preaching in the Philippines.
- 1961Missionary work began in earnest, and the Church received official recognition in the Philippines.
- 1963Mary Ellen Edmunds and Carol Smithen, the first sister missionaries assigned to the Philippines, arrived in Quezon City.
- 1967The Philippine Mission was organized.
- 1973The first stake in the Philippines was organized.
