A short history of the area
Catherine the Great gave the city town status in 1781. It was renamed Sverdlovsk in 1924 and returned to the name Yekaterinburg in 1991. The city is known as a major cultural, industrial, and transportation center between Europe and Asia.

- 1995The Russia Yekaterinburg Mission was created in July. Viacheslav and Galina Efimov led the new mission, supporting members in cities including Chelyabinsk, Perm, Tyumen, and Kurgan.
- 2011The Church’s first stake in Russia was organized in Moscow.
