A short history of the area

Cossack communities lived near the site of present-day Dnipro from at least 1524. The Cossack city of Novyi Kodak was founded in 1645, while the Dnipro City Council later set 1526 as the city’s foundation date based on the Stara Samar settlement.

Yekaterinoslav was established on the right bank of the Dnieper by decree of Catherine the Great in 1784. The city became Dnipropetrovsk in 1926 and was officially renamed Dnipro in 2016 during Ukraine’s decommunization process.

1997The Odesa Ukraine District was organized and assigned to the Ukraine Dnipro Mission.
2004The first Church stake in eastern Europe was organized in Kyiv.
August 28, 2010Thousands of Saints gathered at Kyiv’s National Palace of Arts “Ukraine” to celebrate the completion of the Kyiv Temple.
August 29, 2010The Kyiv Ukraine Temple was dedicated in several sessions broadcast to Saints throughout the region.
