A short history of the area
Ogden became an important transportation center. In 1869, it was the closest sizable city to Promontory Summit, where the first transcontinental railroad was joined. Today, Ogden is known as Junction City, and its motto is “Still Untamed.”
The Church here
- 1847Brigham Young planted his cane near a small creek and said, “Here shall stand the temple of our God.”
- 1852North Ogden was organized as a branch, with Thomas Dunn appointed as president.
- 1853Brigham Young ordained Thomas Dunn bishop of the North Ward of Ogden City.
- 1859Ogden was one of the first regional stakes firmly established in Utah.
- 1884The Logan Temple was dedicated.
- 1989The Utah Ogden North Mission was organized as the third mission formed in Utah that year.
