Doctrine and Covenants 13 The keys of the ministering of angels
In spring 1829, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery were translating the Book of Mormon and had questions about baptism and authority. On May 15, John the Baptist appeared to them in Harmony, Pennsylvania, and conferred the Aaronic Priesthood. This one-verse revelation names key parts of that priesthood’s work, including baptism by immersion for the remission of sins. The ordination took place in woods some distance from the Susquehanna River; research points to a grove on Joseph Smith’s property as the likely location.

Doctrine and Covenants 13
- Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness. How these connections are counted
Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.
Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
Your own words, their link. Summaries are Weak Things’ own. Talk text, Joseph Smith Papers images and transcriptions are not reproduced; every card links to the original. This independent study tool does not speak for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
