Family School

School and scripture study at one table.

A K–8 homeschool program for Latter-day Saint families. History, literature, writing, art, science and scripture study follow the Come, Follow Me schedule. About an hour a day together, short work for each child, and a parent script for every lesson.

What your family gets

Everything except math and phonics, built around the week’s scriptures

When the family studies Matthew 5, the school day goes to Galilee too: the map, the history, a painting of the sermon, a hymn about light and an experiment with salt.

Scripture study

The Come, Follow Me chapters each week, with Sketch Notes interactive stories, maps and memory verses.

History & geography

The ancient world around the scriptures: Galilee, Rome, Greece, Jerusalem, the early Church.

Literature & writing

Read-alouds, narration, copywork and dictation, with writing that grows from oral (K–2) to essays (6–8).

Art & music

A public-domain painting and a hymn each week, with simple picture-study and hymn-study routines.

Science & nature

Hands-on experiments tied to the week’s story: salt and light, seeds and soil, boats and storms.

Bring your own math & phonics

Keep the math and phonics that already work. The planner logs those hours with everything else.

One lesson, three levels

Everyone learns together, then each child works at their level

Grades K–2

Little Learners

Picture pages, tracing, oral narration and coloring maps.

Monday in the sample week

  • Trace and copy: “Ye are the light of the world.”
  • Draw a picture of a time you made peace with someone.
Grades 3–5

Explorers

Written narration, short copywork and dictation, labeled maps.

Monday in the sample week

  • Beatitudes match: connect each need to its promise (8 pairs).
  • Copywork: Matthew 5:9.
Grades 6–8

Scholars

Primary sources, paragraph and essay writing, timelines, “go deeper” study.

Monday in the sample week

  • Beatitudes chart: need, promise and a modern example for each.
  • Go deeper: read 3 Nephi 12:1–3, compare it with Matthew 5:3, and write what the Savior adds when He teaches the Nephites.
Together first. The family lesson is read aloud for everyone, so a kindergartner and an eighth grader hear the same story and talk about the same questions.

Questions

Before you join

Is this a complete homeschool curriculum?

It covers history and geography, literature, writing, art, music, science and scripture study for the whole family. Math and phonics are separate: keep using what works for you, and the planner logs those hours too.

What ages is it for?

Kindergarten through 8th grade. Everyone does the same family lesson, then each child does short work at their level: Little Learners (K–2), Explorers (3–5) and Scholars (6–8).

Do I need teaching experience?

No. Every day has a parent script that tells you what to say, what to show and what to ask, with prep time and supplies listed at the top.

How is it different from Come, Follow Me?

It follows the same weekly scripture schedule, so your family study and school day line up. It adds the history, geography, literature, art, science and writing around those chapters, plus records for your state.

Is this affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

No. Weak Things is an independent publisher. We quote the scriptures and link to official Church materials. We don’t copy Church materials or speak for the Church.

Does Family School meet my state’s homeschool requirements?

In most states, no one approves a homeschool curriculum. Parents choose it, so Family School isn’t “state approved,” and in most states no curriculum is. What your state may ask is that you file a notice, teach certain subjects or keep records. Our state-by-state guide explains what Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Texas and Missouri ask, and how Family School fits each one.

Can I use ESA or scholarship funds?

We plan to apply as an approved vendor for Utah Fits All, Arizona ESA and Texas TEFA. We’re not approved yet, so please don’t plan on those funds until we announce it. Tell us your state on the waitlist so we know where to apply first, and see the state guide for where each program stands.

When does it start, and what will it cost?

The Spring Term pilot is planned for January 2027 with the New Testament. Planned pricing is $129 a year (or $14.99 a month) per family, for every child. Waitlist families get a founding price.
