Doctrine and Covenants 131 The highest glory
This section brings together teachings Joseph Smith gave in Macedonia, Illinois, on May 16 and 17, 1843. On May 16, he instructed Benjamin and Melissa Johnson about the priesthood and marriage; the next day, he preached on 2 Peter 1 and taught about receiving assurance of eternal life. William Clayton was present and took notes. Although Benjamin Johnson later remembered the sealing as happening during the May visit, Clayton’s journal records that the couple were sealed on October 20, 1843.

How these connections are counted
Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.
Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
Your own words, their link. Summaries are Weak Things’ own. Talk text, Joseph Smith Papers images and transcriptions are not reproduced; every card links to the original. This independent study tool does not speak for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
