Doctrine and Covenants 26 All things by common consent

After the Book of Mormon was published in March 1830, Joseph Smith spent much of his time helping the new church and its members. He had also been traveling between Harmony and branches in New York, including Colesville, where he worked to strengthen believers despite opposition. Around mid-July 1830, the Lord gave direction to Joseph, Oliver Cowdery, and John Whitmer about balancing scripture study, preaching, church service, and farm work until the next conference. The revelation also taught that church matters should be handled by common consent, prayer, and faith.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.

Your own words, their link. Summaries are Weak Things’ own. Talk text, Joseph Smith Papers images and transcriptions are not reproduced; every card links to the original. This independent study tool does not speak for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
