Doctrine and Covenants 28 No one shall be appointed

In summer 1830, Oliver Cowdery challenged Joseph Smith's authority to make changes to the church's Articles and Covenants. A second challenge arose when Hiram Page used a stone to receive revelations, some of which led members astray. As a church conference approached, the Lord instructed Oliver about Joseph's role, how to help Hiram Page, and how church matters should be settled. The revelation also called Oliver to preach to the Lamanites.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
