Doctrine and Covenants 44 “I will pour out my Spirit”
In early February 1831, while Joseph Smith and the Saints were in Kirtland, Ohio, the Lord gave direction for the elders to gather. The gathering would prepare them for more missionary work: they were to preach repentance, and the Lord promised that many would be converted. The revelation also connects the church’s ability to organize and protect its members with caring for people in need. Joseph Smith’s history later linked the revelation to a June conference, though the surviving records leave some uncertainty about which gathering fulfilled the call.

How these connections are counted
Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.
Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
