Doctrine and Covenants 50 That light groweth brighter
In late 1830, Oliver Cowdery and his missionary companions left Kirtland to preach west of Missouri, and Ohio converts were without an experienced leader until John Whitmer arrived in January 1831. Reports from Whitmer, Parley P. Pratt, and a local newspaper describe unusual spiritual claims and behavior among some church members. On May 9, 1831, the Lord gave guidance to the elders about discerning spirits and teaching by the Spirit. The revelation also encouraged the Saints and gave assignments to several leaders.

How these connections are counted
Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.
Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
Your own words, their link. Summaries are Weak Things’ own. Talk text, Joseph Smith Papers images and transcriptions are not reproduced; every card links to the original. This independent study tool does not speak for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
