Doctrine and Covenants 55 That little children also may receive instruction

William W. Phelps reached Kirtland by June 14, 1831, after leaving New York to join the church. His arrival prompted this revelation, which set out steps for his baptism and ordination and gave him work to do with Oliver Cowdery. The Lord also directed Phelps to travel with Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon, and named Joseph Coe as another traveler. The revelation connects Phelps’s new responsibilities with teaching, printing, and helping children learn.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.

Your own words, their link. Summaries are Weak Things’ own. Talk text, Joseph Smith Papers images and transcriptions are not reproduced; every card links to the original. This independent study tool does not speak for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
