Doctrine and Covenants 8 Tell you in your mind and in your heart

In April 1829, Oliver Cowdery had begun working with Joseph Smith on the Book of Mormon translation. Oliver wanted the ability to translate, and an earlier revelation had promised him a gift if he desired it. Here the Lord teaches him to seek knowledge with faith and an honest heart, and describes revelation through the Holy Ghost. The section also speaks of another gift Oliver had, called “the gift of Aaron,” and encourages him to use his gifts wisely.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.

Your own words, their link. Summaries are Weak Things’ own. Talk text, Joseph Smith Papers images and transcriptions are not reproduced; every card links to the original. This independent study tool does not speak for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
