Doctrine and Covenants 109 A house of prayer

On March 27, 1836, the House of the Lord in Kirtland, Ohio, was dedicated, and this section is its dedicatory prayer. The prayer asks the Lord to accept the house, make it holy, and bless those who worship and serve there. It also pleads for protection, strength for those preaching the gospel, relief for Saints driven from Jackson County, and the gathering of Israel. Joseph Smith and other Church leaders received the prayer by revelation as they worked late the night before to prepare it.

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
