Doctrine and Covenants 118 “An effectual door shall be opened”
On July 8, 1838, Joseph Smith dictated five revelations in Far West, Missouri, about Church leadership and finances. This revelation addressed the need to reorganize the Quorum of the Twelve after turmoil and departures among its members. The Lord directed that the Twelve be organized, named four men to fill vacancies, and gave Thomas B. Marsh a publishing assignment. He also set out preaching plans for the following spring and promised help for the families of those who served faithfully.

How these connections are counted
Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.
Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
