Doctrine and Covenants 137 Heirs of the Celestial Kingdom

On January 21, 1836, Joseph Smith and others experienced visions in the Kirtland House of the Lord. Joseph saw the celestial kingdom and recognized family members there, including his brother Alvin, whose place in the kingdom puzzled him because Alvin had died without baptism. The Lord answered Joseph’s concern by teaching that people who die without knowing the gospel may inherit the celestial kingdom if they would have received it with all their hearts. The section also teaches that children who die before accountability are saved in the celestial kingdom.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.

Your own words, their link. Summaries are Weak Things’ own. Talk text, Joseph Smith Papers images and transcriptions are not reproduced; every card links to the original. This independent study tool does not speak for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
