Doctrine and Covenants 33 Open Your Mouths
In early October 1830, within a month of their baptisms, Joseph Smith dictated this revelation for Ezra Thayer and Northrop Sweet. It called them to preach and described the urgency of gathering believers. It also taught about repentance, baptism, the Holy Ghost, scripture, and being ready for the Lord’s coming. Thayer later recalled a vision involving a scroll and a trumpet that he connected with this revelation.

- Behold, I say unto you, my servants Ezra and Northrop, open ye your ears and hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, whose word is quick and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, to the dividing asunder of the joints and marrow, soul and spirit; and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
