Doctrine and Covenants 36 Called to preach my gospel
Edward Partridge and Sidney Rigdon traveled from Ohio to New York to meet Joseph Smith. Partridge wanted to learn more about the Church before joining; after hearing Joseph preach and learning about the Smith family, he said he was ready to be baptized. Dated December 9, 1830, this revelation calls Partridge to preach and extends that calling to others who embrace it with singleness of heart. Joseph baptized Partridge on December 11, and Sidney Rigdon ordained him an elder on December 15.

How these connections are counted
Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.
Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
