Doctrine and Covenants 60 Do not bury your talent

On August 8, 1831, elders who had traveled to Missouri met with Joseph Smith and other church leaders after taking part in the dedication of the land for Zion, the temple site, and a conference. The elders had arrived in Missouri in mid- to late July, and some were ready to return home. A later history says they asked Joseph Smith what they should do. The Lord’s answer gave directions for returning elders and for those who would continue preaching, including travel plans and help with expenses.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
