Doctrine and Covenants 66 Proclaim my gospel from land to land

William E. McLellin met Joseph Smith at a Church conference in Orange, Ohio, on October 25–26, 1831, and traveled with him to Hiram. On October 29, McLellin prayed privately and asked the Lord to answer five questions through Joseph Smith; the questions themselves are not known. Joseph dictated this revelation, and McLellin later said he wrote it down as it was spoken. The Lord addressed McLellin’s spiritual concerns and called him to preach with Samuel H. Smith.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
