Doctrine and Covenants 86 Let the wheat and the tares grow together

On December 6, 1832, Joseph Smith recorded that he was working on a revision of the Bible and received a revelation explaining Jesus’s parable of the wheat and the tares. His journal does not tell us whether he was working on the New Testament or the Old Testament that day. Sidney Rigdon wrote the revelation as Joseph dictated it. The revelation traces the Church’s history from the apostles through a future harvest, then speaks to servants whose priesthood had continued through their family lineages.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.

Your own words, their link. Summaries are Weak Things’ own. Talk text, Joseph Smith Papers images and transcriptions are not reproduced; every card links to the original. This independent study tool does not speak for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
