Doctrine and Covenants 87 “Stand ye in holy places”

On December 25, 1832, Joseph Smith dictated a revelation about conflict beginning in South Carolina and spreading among nations. News close to Kirtland included reports of the cholera epidemic, a deadly plague in India, and a dispute between South Carolina and the federal government over tariffs. The revelation describes war and other troubles as signs of the Lord’s coming, then counsels the Saints to remain steady in holy places. Frederick G. Williams wrote the revelation as Joseph dictated it, and later manuscript copies were made by Williams and John Whitmer.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
