Doctrine and Covenants 99 “Proclaim mine everlasting gospel”

On August 29, 1832, Joseph Smith dictated this revelation for John Murdock, calling him to preach in the eastern United States. Murdock had spent much of the previous year and a half traveling as a missionary, and he had returned to Ohio with family responsibilities after the death of his wife. The Lord told him to wait until his children were provided for and sent to the bishop in Zion before leaving. Murdock later recorded that he sent his children to the bishop and continued his missionary work.

How these connections are counted

Sources. Scripture text is the public-domain English text of the Doctrine and Covenants (sections 1–138). Section summaries, headings and questions are Weak Things’ own; the Church’s copyrighted headings and footnotes are not used. Joseph Smith Papers links point to the exact manuscript and printed pages. Connections come from the scripture links in every general conference talk from April 2000 through October 2026.

Distinct talks, not mentions. Each talk counts once per verse. Badges show whether the talk cites this exact verse or a passage that includes it, and whether the link is in a footnote or the talk text. Frequency is not a measure of doctrinal importance.
