Lesson 170 · Scripture Study Skills
Visualizing Stories in the Scriptures
Help students practice visualizing the scripture stories that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have given them.
Teach from the manual first
The lesson comes from the Church’s seminary manual
Use the official lesson as written. These activities take a few minutes to open or review class, and the send-home card helps families reinforce what was taught.
Visualizing stories in the scriptures can help us learn more about Jesus Christ.
New Testament Seminary Teacher Manual (2027). Follow your coordinator’s pacing guide.
Open class
Picture it
A twist on the lesson’s “draw the scenario” opener: reveal hand-drawn story art one piece at a time and notice the details.
Review
Step into the story
Uses Mark 4:35–41, the same account in the lesson’s handout. Walk through the visualizing prompts, then students share one detail about Jesus.
Send home
Picture it at home
Send this to your class chat after the lesson. Students and parents can open the story and resources at home, alone or with family.

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”Mark 4:39
Ask: Picture yourself in the boat. What would you want to say to Jesus after the storm stopped?
Try: Draw one scene from this week’s Come, Follow Me reading in your study journal. Put Jesus in the picture.
