The Resurrection of Christ, etching by Carl Bloch, 1881

Scroll or pinch to zoom · drag to look around

In 1881 Bloch etched the Sankt Jakobs altarpiece at a fraction of its size. Prints let people who would never see the church own the image.

Everything from the painting is here: the raised arms, the kneeling angels, the lilies, the shattered stone, the helmet. In black and white, the light around Christ’s head does even more of the work.
