A great angel kneels behind Jesus and wraps Him in its wings. Jesus’ hands are folded; His eyes are open. BYU curator Mark Magleby said, “There is a forlorn pain in His eyes. They are unblinking. He has entered into this with eyes wide open about the importance of what He is doing.”

Magleby noted Schwartz’s cool colors, so different from Bloch’s deep reds, which he said “represent the loneliness of fulfilling the demands of the Atonement.” Compare Bloch’s Gethsemane in this same room.
