Masters of the Life of Christ

Masters/Carl Bloch/Christ and Doubting Thomas

Christ and Doubting Thomas, etching by Carl Bloch, 1885

Scroll or pinch to zoom · drag to look around

Four years after the Ugerløse altarpiece, Bloch etched the scene again. The composition is the same, but tall and narrow, and the background is almost solid black.

In the print, Thomas presses his hand to his face. The light gathers on Christ’s chest, where He holds the robe aside.
