A short history of the area
Oakland began developing in 1851 and was incorporated as a town in 1852. It became the City of Oakland on March 25, 1854. The city grew as a railroad terminal, manufacturing center, port, and diverse cultural community.

- January 1848Six Mormon Battalion members were at Sutter’s Mill when gold was discovered.
