A short history of the area
The settlement became a town and the permanent capital of Misamis in 1871. Cagayan de Misamis received chartered-city status on June 15, 1950, and became a highly urbanized city in 1983. Today, Cagayan de Oro is also called the City of Golden Friendship and the Whitewater Rafting Capital of the Philippines.

- 1940s and 1950sA few Filipinos joined the Church.
