The story behind CTR goes back well beyond the familiar ring. “Choose the Right” is the title of the beloved hymn written by Joseph L. Townsend, with music by Henry A. Tuckett. For generations of Latter-day Saint children, CTR has been a daily reminder of agency, discipleship, and making righteous choices. Over the years, CTR has become part of the broader culture of the Church. It's been worn by children, teenagers, missionaries, parents, and grandparents—and sometimes all it takes is seeing those three letters for someone to remember a Primary classroom, a little green ring, or a lesson about choosing the right.

Even Church leaders have used the symbol to illustrate its influence. In a 1993 General Conference address, Elder L. Tom Perry shared the story of a young man who looked at his CTR ring when faced with temptation and remembered what the initials meant. Church of Jesus Christ
