Shiz — Strength Beyond the Head T-Shirt

Meet Shiz, one of the most unforgettable—and surprisingly obscure—figures in the Book of Mormon. In Ether 14–15, Shiz emerges as a Jaredite military leader who pursues Coriantumr as the nation tears itself apart through generations of war. His army battles Coriantumr’s forces again and again until almost everyone is dead.

Finally, only Coriantumr and Shiz remain. After Shiz is wounded and exhausted, he still rises and continues the pursuit. Coriantumr eventually strikes off Shiz’s head—and then comes the bizarre detail that inspired this shirt: “Shiz raised up on his hands” before finally falling and dying. (Ether 15:31.)

At Weak Things, we took that already-strange scripture and gave it the fitness-poster treatment it probably never asked for. The result is an intentionally ridiculous image of Shiz doing a one-handed push-up while casually holding his own head and winking at you.

But underneath the humor is a serious lesson. Shiz's story isn't really about physical toughness. It is about what happens when anger, pride, and stubbornness become more powerful than reason. Millions died because Coriantumr, Shiz, and their followers refused to stop. Church teachings likewise use this account to demonstrate that anger can lead us to choices that hurt ourselves and others.
