Then there’s Brigham Young—the leader who guided thousands of Latter-day Saints westward after Joseph Smith’s death. He helped establish communities across the American West and played a central role in building settlements, institutions, and temples in the Great Basin. Crossing the plains required grit, determination, organization, and an impressive tolerance for difficult conditions. Clearly, the original pioneer physique was doing something right.

John Taylor was known for courage and steadfastness during some of the most difficult periods in early Church history. He served alongside Joseph Smith, endured persecution, and eventually became President of the Church. His life reflected remarkable commitment to his faith and responsibilities. In this version, we're suggesting that perhaps his legendary determination came with an equally legendary shoulder workout.

And Spencer W. Kimball brought a powerful message of missionary work, personal conversion, repentance, and worldwide growth. Under his leadership, the Church experienced significant expansion, including a dramatic increase in missionary efforts and the 1978 revelation extending priesthood ordination and temple blessings to all worthy male members regardless of race. His influence reached around the globe.

So yes, the muscles are exaggerated.

The accomplishments aren't.

That is what makes The Smiths on Whey more than just a funny gym shirt. Beneath the oversized shoulders, heroic poses, and vintage album-cover aesthetic is a reminder that strength comes in many forms. These leaders faced opposition, uncertainty, sacrifice, responsibility, and enormous challenges. They built communities, preached the gospel, endured hardship, and inspired generations of believers.
