A tall woman in white stands at the well with a jar on her shoulder, half turned away. Jesus sits in the shade of a tree, tired from the road, one hand raised as He speaks.

Bloch shows the moment before she understands. She has come for water at noon; He offers her water that becomes “a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” In the far distance, small figures walk across the fields, perhaps the disciples coming back from town.
