A short history of the area

Rosario grew from several early settlements in the Pago de los Arroyos area. Most commentators give 7 October 1793 as the city’s founding date, when the local population was 457. Rosario was officially declared a city on 5 August 1852.

On 27 February 1812, General Manuel Belgrano raised the newly created Argentine flag for the first time on the shores of the Paraná River. Rosario later became Argentina’s first export outlet in 1880 and is now the country’s third-most populous city.

1923Wilhelm Friedrichs and Emil Hoppe, two German immigrants, began preaching the gospel in Buenos Aires.
1925Apostle Melvin J. Ballard dedicated South America for the preaching of the gospel and established the South American Mission in Buenos Aires.
1930The Church was permanently established in Rosario.
1940sForeign missionaries were withdrawn from Argentina, and local members assumed leadership of branches and mission organization.
1946Foreign missionaries returned to Argentina.
1966The first stake in Argentina was created in Buenos Aires.
1972The Argentina East Mission was organized and was later renamed the Argentina Rosario Mission.
