About the mission

The Democratic Republic of the Congo Mwene-Ditu Mission is centered in Mwene-Ditu, a city in Lomami Province. Mwene-Ditu is about 126 kilometers south of Mbuji-Mayi.

French and Lingala are used in the mission area. Families may hear both languages in church, daily life, and missionary work.

A short history of the area

Mwene-Ditu was established under Presidential Order Act No. 43/2003 on March 28, 2003. The city received city status that same year. It is located about 126 kilometers south of Mbuji-Mayi, the capital of Kasai Oriental Province.

The city stands along the national railway line and is also served by National Road 1 and National Road 40. Mwene-Ditu Airport is in the northwestern part of the city, which has three communes: Bondoyi, Musadi, and Mwene-Ditu.

The Church here

1997The Church organized its first branches in central Democratic Republic of the Congo in Kananga, Mbuji-Mayi, and Luputa.
2008The first official branches in Mwene-Ditu and Gandajika were organized. Mwene-Ditu received its first branch.
2010Church responsibility for Mwene-Ditu and Gandajika was transferred to the newly organized Democratic Republic of the Congo Lubumbashi Mission.
2014The Mwene-Ditu Democratic Republic of the Congo District was organized from four mission branches in the city.
2019The Mwene-Ditu Democratic Republic of the Congo Stake was organized, and seven branches became wards: Aerodrome, Bondoyi, Matshitshi, Musadi 1st, Musadi 2nd, Mwene-Ditu, and Peage.
