A short history of the area

Cauayan is a component city in Isabela Province. The city was founded civilly on September 8, 1739, with Calanusian as its first town site. The new settlement began operating as a pueblo in 1740.

Dominican missionaries arrived in the Turayong area in 1739 and helped establish the early Christian community. Cauayan's name is associated with the local word for bamboo, reflecting the bamboo groves found along the riverbanks.

1961Missionary work began in earnest in the Philippines.
