A short history of the area
The provincial capital moved from Lal-lo to Tuguegarao in 1839 after the Cagayan-Manila road opened. Tuguegarao was occupied during World War II and liberated on June 25, 1945. It became a component city in 1999 after the passage and ratification of Republic Act No. 8755.
