A short history of the area
The city is in Venezuela, a country where the Church has grown from its first congregation in Caracas in 1966 to more than 177,000 members and 235 congregations.
The Church here
- 1966Elder Marion G. Romney dedicated Venezuela for preaching the gospel, and the first branch was organized on November 2.
- 1967Missionaries arrived in Venezuela from the Costa Rica Mission, and the first convert was baptized in February.
- 1971The Venezuela Caracas Mission was created.
- 1975President Spencer W. Kimball visited Venezuela when about 4,000 members met in 23 congregations.
- 1979Venezuela had nearly 5,000 members, and the Venezuela Maracaibo Mission was created.
- 1994The Venezuela Valencia Mission and Venezuela Barcelona Mission were created.
