Sherem, Nehor, and Korihor are often grouped together as the Book of Mormon’s three great anti-Christs, although the text itself specifically uses the title “Anti-Christ” for Korihor. The Church’s scripture resources describe Sherem as denying Christ, Nehor as teaching false doctrines and introducing priestcraft, and Korihor as ridiculing Christ, the Atonement, and prophecy.

Sherem: The Original Opposition Counsel

In Jacob 7, Sherem arrives as an educated, persuasive speaker determined to shake Jacob from his faith. His argument is essentially: There is a God, but there is no Christ. He insists that the law of Moses is sufficient and rejects Jacob’s testimony of a coming Savior.

Sherem eventually demands a sign. He receives one—and spends his final moments acknowledging the truth before his death.

Nehor: The Priestcraft Specialist

Then comes Nehor in Alma 1. Nehor has a different business model: universal salvation, popularity, paid preaching, expensive clothing, and plenty of personal attention. He teaches that everyone will ultimately be saved and that there is no need for repentance or Christ’s Atonement.

His operation comes to an abrupt end after he kills Gideon and is sentenced to death.

John Bytheway has made a particularly memorable comparison between Nehor's approach and the Lord's way, describing the contrast as “priestcraft versus priesthood.”

Korihor: The Skepticism Division

Finally, there is Korihor, the most explicitly identified Anti-Christ in the Book of Mormon. His philosophy is strikingly modern: if you can't see it, you can't know it; there is no Christ, no sin, no Atonement, and no ultimate accountability.

John Bytheway has pointed out just how relevant Korihor's arguments remain. He humorously calls the consequences of Korihor's teachings “Kori-horrible” decisions and explains that the reason Mormon preserved Korihor's arguments was so we could recognize the adversary's playbook.
