A short history of the area

Santos is a municipality in São Paulo, Brazil. The Port of Santos is a container port and is an important part of the city’s identity.

The Santos Basin is an offshore sedimentary basin associated with the area. Santos is also the home of Santos FC, which was founded in 1912.

The Church here

1927Missionaries from Argentina came to Brazil in search of German members and began preaching.
1928Missionaries began preaching in southern Brazil in response to requests from German Church members living in Brazil.
1935The Brazilian Mission was organized as a separate mission, with Rulon S. Howells as its first president.
1940The Portuguese translation of the Book of Mormon was first published.
1963The Campinas, Santos, São Paulo, and Tietê Districts were created from the São Paulo District.
1966The first stake in South America was created in São Paulo.
1978The São Paulo Brazil Temple was completed, becoming the first temple in South America.
2013The Brazil Santos Mission opened in July.
