A short history of the area
From about 1770 to 1870, Sorocaba was an important center of Tropeirismo, the mule-based trade that connected several regions of Brazil. The Sorocabana Railway opened in 1872, helping transport cotton products, animals, and passengers to São Paulo. The city later became known as Manchester Paulista because of its textile factories and industrial landscape.

- 1928Missionaries began preaching in southern Brazil in response to requests from German members living there.
- 1930sAnti-German sentiment led to a government ban on German in public life. Church services soon moved to Portuguese, and some German-language materials were destroyed.
