A short history of the area
In 508, Clovis the Frank made Paris the capital of the Merovingian dynasty. Paris later defended itself during the Siege of Paris in 885 and 886. Construction of Notre-Dame Cathedral began in 1163, and Paris became the center of the French Revolution when a mob stormed the Bastille on July 14, 1789.

- 1849Missionaries first arrived in France and found interested listeners among religious dissenters and cultural outsiders.
- 1850William Howells baptized six new converts and organized the first branch of the Church in France in Paris on April 6.
- 1864The French Mission closed after Louis Bertrand had led it from 1849.
- 1908Missionaries returned to France.
- 1912The Paris France Mission was reorganized in October.
- 1914The outbreak of World War I caused the mission to close again.
- 1975The first stake in France was organized in Paris.
- 2011Thomas S. Monson announced that a temple would be built near Paris.
- 2017The Paris France Temple was dedicated in May.
